RYAN SARAH MURPHY and her series of collages

I would like to introduce you RYAN SARAH MURPHY and her series of collages. Ryan is a visual artist that holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts, New York (2001). She’s currently living and working in New York.
Let The Artist tell us about her works and then – enjoy the view!

My current work consists of wall-hung, collaged constructions made of cardboard. I never apply any paint or additional color to these pieces, relying solely on the color of the found and collected cardboard to guide the compositional process. These collages, suggesting odd terrains of shifting perspectives, are the result of a subconscious examination of space – both the concrete environment of the city and the interior dwelling of the self. Much like the natural and artificial landscape that we both inhabit and construct, my work serves as a tenuous meeting point of architectural and abstract elements.

Coming up, I will have work in the group exhibition “Domestic Ideals: Nostalgia and the Home”, at Lesley Heller Workspace (February 8 – March 8, 2015) and I will be showing with ODETTA Gallery at the Pulse Art Fair in New York (March 5-8th). Later in March I will be included in the group show “Paper Constructions” at the Drawing Rooms, Jersey City, NJ.
