The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, presents an exhibition ‘Death Becomes Her’ with mourning dress from 1815 to 1915. It explores the aesthetic development and cultural implications of mourning fashions in accessories, black crape and silk dresses and letter introduction of color with shades of gray and mauve. The exposition includes mourning gowns worn by Queen Victoria and Queen Alexandra and other dresses, many of which are being exhibited for the first time.
